Work
Most of what I do sits in three projects, with some consulting around the edges. The projects are mine; the consulting is where other people's problems get interesting.
Study Work Grow
I started Study Work Grow in 2017 as a careers newsletter for one school, and it's now a career education platform used by hundreds of schools across Australia. There's a team now (a very good one) who run it day to day, which is how I get to do the rest of this list.
studyworkgrow.com →The CADI Career Clusters
CADI stands for the Cluster Approach to the Development of Identity. It's a framework for thinking about work as six clusters of related roles rather than a list of job titles, built so that people can move between roles without starting from scratch each time. It's used in schools, in counselling, and increasingly in research - two of my papers are about it.
thecareerclusters.com →Common Flow
Common Flow is the skills side: a shared map of human skills (the Common Codes) that lets different skills frameworks talk to each other, and Common Skills, a marketplace where schools find outside providers and see which skills each program builds. Both are built on the two-axis model from my 2026 paper.
commonflow.co →Lucy is strategic, intelligent, generous in time and feedback, creative and connected, and she asks great questions.
Consulting
I work as a learning and skills designer with ed techs, startups, not-for-profits, and government - usually on a program, a framework, or a curriculum that needs to connect what young people learn with what employers can actually see. I've worked with universities, government bodies, major not-for-profits, and global educational technology companies in this way.
If you have questions about the following then let's chat:
- Learning and skills design - frameworks, programs, assessment, and how to map any of them to skills people can name.
- Running an ethically-driven social enterprise in education. Nine years of it, including the bits that went wrong.
- Building a network and finding your voice, so that what you know is useful to somebody. Most of my career came from this, and I'm happy to show my methods.
I also give keynotes and in-house briefings, sit on advisory groups, collaborate on research, and take calls from journalists.
I keep the number of clients I work with small, and if I'm not the right person for you then there's a chance I know someone else who would be better, and I'll point you in their direction.
How it works
Start with a free half-hour call first, so we both know what the scope of work looks like. That will also help us decide how best to work together, and I'll provide you with clear (and cost-effective) options that work within your schedule.
