I help people find work that fits them.
Career counsellor, learning designer, social enterprise founder, and researcher

Who I work with
While I spend most of my time working in my social enterprise, conducting research, or consulting on learning and skills design for universities, governments, and companies, (read more about that on the work page), I also take on the occasional counselling client. These people could be senior executives weighing up a career move, young people stuck in limbo, or those returning to the workforce after extended time away.
If you're after general careers advice, Study Work Grow is the best place to start.
Lucy is an exceptional careers counsellor and left me feeling empowered to take charge of my study and career. The gold standard in my experience.
About
I help people find careers they love. I started out as a teenager working in fried chicken; after school I went to ADFA, then worked as a military air traffic controller coordinating hotshot pilots and the occasional blimp. I've also been a professional artist, and am partway through raising three humans.
I got my big start in careers at age 10. My Dad, Ron Sylvester, was a Careers Advisor in a public high school in Sydney, and he would take me to his office during the holidays, where I would spend my time replacing Job Guides and Careers Bullseye Posters.
Now, I work with hundreds of schools across Australia, and help hundreds of thousands of students find careers they love through my work with Study Work Grow and the Cadi Clusters.
Somewhere along the way I picked up a Master's in guidance, counselling, and careers, and in 2025 I started a PhD at QUT on how what happens to us as kids shapes the careers we choose as adults (which is, I think, where most of this started for me). I write a newsletter called Pondering Careers, I speak at conferences, and I've published a few papers - they're all on the publications page if you're into that sort of thing.
Lucy's work has an impact internationally and she consistently brings clarity, creativity, and strategic insight to every project she works on.
I've published in Career Development International, the NICEC Journal, and the GILE Journal of Skills Development, I've been on ABC Radio a couple of times, and earlier this year I gave the keynote at the Guidance Professionals Summit.
Writing
Pondering Careers is a newsletter about skills and work. I started it in 2023 and I'm somewhere near a hundred editions, which is further than I expected to get.
Lucy's guidance at a critical point in my career has been invaluable.
